'We still need your help': Family of missing New Caney woman asks public to check cameras

Loved ones are asking anyone who traveled along FM 1485 on July 20 to review dashcam footage for signs of Maria Ortiz.

NEW CANEY, Texas — The family of a New Caney woman who has been missing for a week is making a renewed plea for help, asking neighbors and drivers to review security camera and dashcam footage that could help investigators find her.

Maria Ortiz, 58, was last seen on July 20 and suffers from dementia, according to Texas EquuSearch. Her family said they are especially asking anyone who traveled along FM 1485 that day to check their dashcams for anything that may help.

In a message shared on social media, Ortiz's family thanked the community for sharing her information, volunteering in search efforts and providing tips, but said they still need the public's help.

The family is encouraging residents near FM 1485 to review home security camera footage, ask neighbors to check their cameras and continue sharing Ortiz's information online.

Loved ones also asked volunteers to continue going door to door and searching the area, saying "every conversation, every set of eyes, and every act of kindness brings us one step closer to finding her."

Anyone with information about Ortiz's whereabouts is asked to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 936-538-5900 or Texas EquuSearch at 281-309-9500.
