  REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala.— The Department of War announced July 21 the death of a U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Soldier. Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton, 30, was killed in action during a controlled detonation of a downed One-Way Unmanned Aerial System July 19, 2026, at Erbil Air Base, Iraq. The incident is under investigation. "USASMDC is saddened by the loss of Sgt. Swinton,whose death occurred during an operation to safeguard fellow Soldiers,” said Lt. Gen. John L. Showing up for a stranger’s funeral can be a sacred act, especially for a veteran who had no family. “I would want somebody to be at my funeral if I didn’t have family or people that wanted to support me for what I did in my life,” Jessica Huen, of Wellington, said.   TOLEDO, Córdoba Province — A flight instructor died after jumping from a small plane in mid-air during a training flight in central Argentina,  according to CNN , leaving a student pilot on-board to land the plane alone. Leandro Andrés Bertazzo, 42, was found dead following the incident, which occurred in Toledo on Saturday, CNN reported, citing a statement from the country's public prosecutor. Bertazzo was flying a Cessna 150 with a 22-year-old student named Rosario when he unbuckled his seatbelt, removed his headset, opened the plane's door and jumped, according to CNN, which cited its Argentine affiliate TN. Before jumping, Bertazzo told his student, "You know what you have to do, carry on," TN reported.
